We want to get upon the train
By Martin Plunkett & Denis Leonard
Verse 1
Back in 1848 when the railways came along
It passed right through the Midlands, and on to Sligo town
You could board in Enfield, Hill of Down, Killucan and Mullingar
Sure the people way back then, thought they’d never need a motor car
Verse 2
Then in 1963 decisions they were made
“We’ll close Killucan station,” said the heads of Irish Rail
“Sure the people they will manage, they can board in Mullingar
And they’ll always have the option they can drive their motor cars
Chorus
But now we want to get back on the train
But we can’t get that through to Irish Rail
But we won’t stop we won’t give up
We’ll stand together through thick and thin
Until we get Killucan Station opened up again
Verse 3
So if you are a Culchie, a Dulchie or a Dub
And you live out side of Dublin, you live in the midland hub
The train stops in Killucan, but you can’t get off or on
Because tbe heads in Irish Rail, don’t give a feckin damn
Verse 4
The Minister, says “He’ll look at this, to see what he can do
The population exploding, But I am in a stew
If I open up Killucan I’ll lose my seat the next time round
Because my own constituents they want a station in Hill of Down
Chorus
Verse 5
So people of the Midlands, c’mon ye one and all
Put pressure on your Senators, and TD’s in the Dail
To open up Killucan and also the station at Hill of Down
And on the roads of Ireland help to bring the carnage down
Verse 6
Now the boys up in Dail Eireann are sitting in a stew
How to reduce the carbon, will tell them what to do
Open up Killucan station and we’ll board it one and all
And maybe they’ll even use it when they’re going to the Dail
Chorus
